Leading Marine Geophysical Company
Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) was founded in Norway in 1991, with two seismic ships and some highly innovative ideas on how to reshape the industry. Today we share the same drive to innovate as inspired our founders, though the team is bigger with 16 offshore seismic vessels and 35 offices worldwide, employing more than 70 nationalities. The opening of the Houston office was one of the first major undertakings by PGS in 1991 and ever since has formed an integral part in the success of the company. The company now has a presence in 25 countries with further major regional centers (in addition to Houston) in London and Singapore. The company headquarters is in Oslo, Norway.
PGS concentrates on marine geophysics and offers a broad range of products including seismic and electromagnetic services, data acquisition, processing, reservoir analysis/interpretation and multi-client library data. We help the oil companies of Houston and worldwide to find oil and gas reserves offshore.
Leadership in HSEQ is one of our Core Values. We strive to establish and maintain best practice HSEQ culture throughout PGS. Our vision is that PGS will be best in class in HSEQ in the worldwide geophysical industry with zero injury to people and no damage to the environment. To achieve this we will work together and take responsibility for the Health, Safety, Security of ourselves and others, to minimize our impact on the Environment and ensure best Quality in products and services.
PGS—A Clearer Image
A clear and unambiguous image of the reservoir is the cornerstone to successful exploitation of an oil or gas asset. Many factors contribute to the quality of a seismic image but these are the main ones:
- The physical properties of the Earth
- A properly planned and executed seismic survey
- Selecting the best technology to meet the geological challenges at the target
- Matching acquisition parameters and subsequent data processing parameters
The quality of the input determines the quality of the output. Proprietary and exclusive technology such as our Ramform vessels and our GeoStreamer
® acquisition technology reduce the compromises made in exploration. High density, broadband seismic data provides the best platform for high fidelity processing and imaging.
PGS specializes in survey design, acquisition and processing and our dedicated and innovative teams work continuously to overcome the challenges posed by complex geological features.
Our Community
Across the globe, PGS seeks opportunities to enhance the communities in which we operate. In the Houston area we are actively supporting nonprofit organizations to help build the future of our community.
Within PGS our core values are common guidelines for the whole company. In Houston one of the main goals of our Social Committee is to raise social consciousness through charitable and volunteer activities through a variety of organizations such as The Sunshine Kids, Bike Build and the United Way. In addition, PGS is involved locally with Commit for Life Blood Drives and Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity and Red Cross.
These are just a few of the organizations the PGS employees help benefit throughout the year. The employees take pride in participating in these activities along with their families to enhance PGS’ community presence and support in Houston.
Besides all the hard work the employees put into these organizations, the PGS Houston Social Committee offer the employees and their families fun time away from the office to meet and interact across business units and to strengthen the family unit.
