Schlumberger Oilfield Services
Investing in technology for the future.

Schlumberger and its employees have been a vital part of the Houston community since 1934 when company founder Conrad Schlumberger first came to the Bayou City to establish North American operations for the company, which was founded in Paris in 1927. As the world's leading oilfield services company, Schlumberger prides itself on a diverse, global workforce of 76,000 employees of 140 nationalities—employees dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that improve production, increase reserves and reduce risk for the international oil and gas industry. Schlumberger employees are also dedicated to serving the communities where they live and work, with particular focus on education, wellness and environmental stewardship.

Greater Houston is home to approximately 5,000 Schlumberger employees and their families. Schlumberger Houston-based operations include: U.S. corporate offices; home to the North American management team; Industry Affairs; and Community Affairs, as well as operational and support services and key technology centers.

Key Houston-Area Technology Centers
Many people are familiar with our 200-acre Sugar Land campus, which houses about 1800 of our Houston-based people. But Schlumberger also has offices and facilities throughout the greater Houston area, including five of the company's 23 global technology centers, which develop and manufacture Schlumberger proprietary products and solutions.

Schlumberger Information Solutions Houston Technology Center (SIS HTC):
Located in near-west Houston. SIS HTC is home to approximately 250 professionals and support staff, including people with expertise in many disciplines related to computer technology, decision and information sciences and people and project management. They design and develop software solutions for use by Schlumberger and its customers to help manage and analyze processes, data, information and decision-making in support of finding and producing oil and gas.

WesternGeco Houston Technology Center: WesternGeco is the world's largest geophysical services company and provides advanced acquisition, data processing and seismic consulting services. The Technology Center in far west Houston houses approximately 150 professionals who, in conjunction with the London Technology Center, deliver data processing and reservoir seismic workflows to provide Schlumberger and its customers with detailed analysis and greater confidence in describing reservoir properties for enhanced oil and gas exploration and production.

Schlumberger Reservoir Completions Technology Center (SRC): This 460-acre site located near Rosharon, Texas (approximately 35 miles south of Houston) is the company's focal point of engineering excellence for integrated well completions and reservoir production systems. It is home to approximately 600 employees working at the industry's most advanced perforating research laboratory and integrated completions testing, custom engineering and manufacturing facilities. SRC staff includes experts in chemistry, metallurgy, many engineering disciplines and manufacturing.

Integrated Productivity & Conveyance Center (IPC): Located at the Sugar Land campus, IPC enables the most efficient delivery of Schlumberger technology from surface to reservoir, providing equipment design and manufacturing.

Sugar Land Technology Center (SPC): Also located in Sugar Land, SPC is one of three technology centers in the Reservoir Characterization Group and develops technology predominantly for the Reservoir Evaluation Wireline and Drilling & Measurements business segments.

Supporting Houston and our industry

Industry Affairs: Industry Affairs maintains and manages Schlumberger’s connection to the oil and gas industry, which includes involvement in technical and business initiatives as well as industry-wide charitable efforts. As a corporate member of business societies, such as American Petroleum Institute (API) and the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) and professional societies, such as Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and American Association of Petroleum Geologist (AAPG), representatives from Schlumberger are active on advisory boards helping to drive and address issues related to the oil and gas industry.

Schlumberger is also proud to support industry-wide charities, such as Offshore Energy Center, Spindletop International, Junior Achievement and is a Shell Houston Open Charity Partner.

Community Affairs: Schlumberger employees’ commitment also extends to their community involvement. Community affairs initiatives have always been part of the Schlumberger culture. Efforts in Houston are employee-driven, based on employee-identified primary areas of concern: education, with an emphasis on science; wellness, recognizing the importance of overall health; and environmental stewardship, recognizing our individual and collective roles to protect our environment.

Although there are too many specific initiatives to list, a few are included to represent each of the three themes.

The Schlumberger Pre-College Summer Institute is a Schlumberger-led initiative in partnership with HISD, University of Houston, Harris County and City of Houston parks departments and Baylor College. It is a four-week educational summer enrichment camp to introduce inner-city eighth-grade students to science and technology, wellness, careers in engineering and college-bound culture.

For wellness, Schlumberger and its employees are supporting three major fundraising and awareness-raising walks in Houston, which include: the American Heart Association Walk, the Komen Race for the Cure and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk to Cure Diabetes.

Environmental efforts include partnerships with the Nature Conservancy and the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center to support their efforts and events in the Houston area.

The Schlumberger Cares Grant is an exciting new program in direct support of our employees’ community activities. Employees can apply for and receive annual grants for non-profit groups or youth sports teams.
