THE HEALTH MUSEUM
HOUSTON’S MOST INTERACTIVE SCIENCE LEARNING CENTER
The Health Museum is Houston’s most interactive science learning center and a member institution of the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. Located in the heart of the Houston Museum District, The Health Museum aims to further the educational mission to foster the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers, mathematicians, and medical practitioners to ensure a healthy and prosperous future for humanity.
The Health Museum offers transformative learning opportunities for all ages that are multi-sensory and engaging, annually welcomes more than 180,000 diverse patrons of all ages and from every walk of life, and more than 2.6 million visitors and counting since its inception in 1996. Join us for new informative programs featuring content on mental and emotional well-being, active living and healthy eating.
The Amazing Body Pavilion takes patrons on a larger-than-life tour of the human body to learn how the organs and bones work. Guests can ride a bicycle with a skeleton, walk through a giant brain, marvel at a floor to ceiling backbone and rib cage, see vocal chords in action down a huge throat, or walk into a colossal eyeball to see how eyes receive and perceive images.
In
You: The Exhibit, patrons can age themselves 30 years, learn how long they will live, change their features, scan their internal organs, and more with state-of-the-art multimedia and special effects technology. Also, patrons can enjoy 3D feature movies in the fully digital, surround-sound environment with special effects like rain, lightning, smells and more in the McGovern 4D Theater.
The museum’s newest attraction is the state-of-the-art DeBakey Cell Lab, a world-class 2,000-square-foot exhibit designed to interest and educate the public about biology and medicine and inspire future scientists and medical leaders. Patrons can conduct real experiments with authentic lab equipment which goes beyond standard science demonstrations. Families and school groups test microbes, interact directly with DNA, extract chromosomes and DNA and test antimicrobials. The lab offers unique science-focused experiences and is the only bilingual (English/Spanish) science lab museum exhibit nationwide.
